Current ProjectsTS Rebel has a very successful track record in providing coastal and offshore training for young people via its 24 qualified, volunteer instructors and the 8 training vessels that it operates. 1) Sea Skills Training & Accommodation CentreWith the existing resources available we have identified further opportunities to complement and enhance our training programmes provided through the establishment of a shore based facility. This facility would enable shore based navigation and general nautical safety training, a full implementation of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, and the addition of day running training for the Royal Yachting Association’s power and sailing courses. In 2009 we successfully trialled this additional training through the use of temporary loan accommodation; following this success we are seeking to establish our own dedicated sea skills training and accommodation centre. This will allow us to expand and develop additional training opportunities for young people. A training and accommodation centre is vital because it enables essential training for the induction and advancement of safety at sea for young people. It will complement our extensive existing practical training by:
* Enabling the delivery of safety, navigational and first aid courses
* Extending the practical training on the water by providing overnight accommodation * Provide facilities for collective staff training for our volunteer instructors throughout the year * Facilitate uninterrupted training weekends, allowing maximum training benefit to students Project stages

Practical hands-on and navigation challenges require well maintained boats

2) Training Boats RefitTo complement our shore based training, TS Rebel provides a hands-on practical training programme that requires its boats to be continually seaworthy and very safe. This is only achieved by regular inspections and safety checks. Given the corrosive nature of salt water and the stresses and strains placed on various parts of our boats, this is an ongoing and sometimes expensive consequence of providing sea skills training for young people.Sonata Keelboats

3) Safety Foul Weather ClothingTS Rebel has consistently provided offshore practical training places for young people. Our category 2 training boats can operate up to 60 nautical miles from land in various challenging weather conditions. It is essential for the safety and well being of these young trainees that they can be protected from the elements. Lt Cdr (SCC) N Moulton RNR
